- Took some time to relax, recenter, and perform some personal growth
- Analyzed where I was in life and what I wanted to do in the future
- Traveled, gained some new experiences, and explored ideas that opened up some opportunities
In a nutshell, I took some time to figure some things out. It has been a long time since I sat back, looked at the future, and figured out where I may want to go with it. So what did I come up with?
Given all the past experience, I know that I really like helping others do things. Whether it’s helping them do their jobs more effectively or efficiently, helping someone learn something new, or providing some sort of insight that they didn’t have before, I really like to help people.
I also seem to be reasonably good with technology, problem solving, and coming up with out-of-the-box solutions to problems. That doesn’t mean that I can’t work within a given framework if a solution exists, but I also look to “what can do the job?” as a way to find a solution. Sometimes when there isn’t something in place, the opportunity to make something work comes to the forefront.
I like to have a large number of tools in the toolbox so that when a problem comes along, I can consider what will work best. Some people only “have a hammer” and so everything “looks like a nail”. For me, there is never only one way to do things, so the challenge is not “What to use?”, but rather “What is going to provide the best results?”
During this time, I’ve also explored some hobbies and outside interests. This offers ways to create comparisons that may not rely on technology alone when explaining a problem.
Some of the things I’ve done are interests that I’m looking forward to continuing now that I’ve had the time to build the base skills. But ultimately, the area I enjoy is helping people get the most out of the technology that’s around, no matter what form it comes in.
