Kodak (Round 2)

  • Migrated / Upgraded Lotus Notes email clients
  • Provided desktop management and asset tracking configurations
  • Assisted in creation of a distributed rendering farm

After my last position, I found myself interviewing with Kodak again, and interestingly, for the same department but doing slightly different work. This time, instead of doing server support (which had been outsourced) I was brought in to provide some desktop support during a migration from Lotus Notes. (To be honest, I don’t remember the versions, but I believe it was from a 4.x to 5.0.) The group I was supporting was approximately 150 people across five different sites.

The other project I was tasked with was to unify the desktop ordering system so that all the document writers would get the same types of systems.

The last project we worked on was setting up a render farm. The animators were running into bottlenecks when creating training animations because the process was taking too long on his system. So we started to utilize the resources of the other computers in the department to share the load.

I would have stayed at that position, however, Kodak decided that all contractors were required to take a pay cut. With the travel needed to support the sites (and no additional compensation for doing so), I could not justify staying in that position.
